The fruit

Kiwiberry fruits are smaller than the “common” commercial green and gold kiwifruits. They are about the size of a large grape or small plum and have a smooth and edible skin. This makes them a real convenience food, because the fruit doesn’t need to be peeled, cut in half or scooped out with a spoon. The kiwiberry is a snack fruit that is easily eaten without creating a mess.

Kiwiberry fruit shapes range from round to oblong, and green as well as dark red fruited cultivars exist. The interior appearance perfectly resembles the common kiwifruit, with many small, dark-coloured seeds clustered around a whitish central core.

Compared to the common green kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa), kiwiberries are sweeter, more flavourful and more nutrient dense. They are a healthy source of minerals, fibre, antioxidants and vitamin C. Depending on the cultivar, vitamin C content ranges from 40-165 mg/100g, which is double as high as in lemons . The amount of polyphenol antioxidants is around 300 p.p.m., about 1.4 times that of the green kiwi.
